As part of the nationwide 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women (VAW), the Philippine Ports Authority โ€“ Port Management Office of Agusan conducted an Awareness and Reorientation Session on the Safe Spaces Act (RA 11313) on December 2, 2025, at the PMO Multipurpose Hall. The session, led by Acting Port Manager Atty. Kahlil L. Lamigo as the resource speaker, highlights the PMOโ€™s continuing commitment to promote safe, respectful, and gender-responsive spaces within the workplace and the wider port community.

Atty. Lamigo discussed the salient provisions of the Safe Spaces Act, commonly known as the โ€œBawal Bastos Lawโ€, focusing on the prohibition of gender-based sexual harassment in public spaces, workplaces, online platforms, and transport terminals, including ports. He emphasized the responsibility of all port personnel and stakeholders to maintain professional conduct, ensure confidentiality when handling reports, and strengthen mechanisms for prevention and redress. He also noted the unique importance of the law in port environments, where diverse interactions among passengers, port users, truckers, and frontline workers occur daily.

The initiative forms part of PMO Agusanโ€™s broader efforts to reinforce gender sensitivity, uphold employeesโ€™ rights, and cultivate an environment anchored on respect and accountability. PMO personnel expressed their support for the advocacy, recognizing that awareness and collective action are essential in making the port a safer space for women and all members of the maritime community.
