The Port Management Office (PMO) of Agusan took part in the two-day celebration of the Day of the Filipino Seafarers, spearheaded by the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) Caraga, held on June 25, 2025, at the VCDU Prince Hotel in Butuan City.

The celebration kicked off on June 24 with a poster-making contest conducted simultaneously at the MARINA Butuan Extension Office, located at the Port of Butuan, and the MRO13 Regional Office in Surigao City. Among the participants was a PMO Agusan Port Police Officer, who showcased creativity and support for the occasion alongside students from various maritime schools. Creative entries were showcased during the main event today.

The main event featured a seminar-symposium with the theme “A Safe Harbor for All: Advancing Psychosocial Well-being and Mental Wellness in Maritime Workplaces.” The session brought together students from various maritime schools in Butuan City, along with representatives from partner maritime and law enforcement agencies.

A key highlight of the symposium was a talk delivered by JInsp. Richard C. Recososa, RN (Ret.), who shared valuable insights on fostering mental health and psychosocial well-being in maritime workplaces. The program also included a Spoken Word Poetry Contest, where students performed original pieces reflecting their aspirations, experiences, and appreciation for Filipino seafarers. Seafarers likewise shared heartfelt testimonies about their lives at sea, emphasizing the importance of emotional resilience.

The celebration concluded with the awarding of winners for both the Poster-Making and Spoken Word Poetry contests. The Day of the Filipino Seafarers served as a meaningful tribute to the tireless dedication and sacrifices of Filipino seafarers, while highlighting the need to prioritize mental health and wellness in the maritime profession.
