The Terminal Management Office (TMO) of Masao, in collaboration with the the Port Police Division, warmly welcomed 100 learners from Butuan City Special Education (SPED) Center for an educational tour at the Port of Masao earlier today, January 23, 2025.
The students, who have Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), hearing and visual impairments, and intellectual disabilities, took part in the activity as part of the 29th National Autism Consciousness Week celebration. This yearโs theme, โEmpowering Change and Inclusivity,โ highlights the importance of creating opportunities for individuals with special needs.
The event, designed to deepen the learnersโ understanding of port operations, featured a guided tour of the port facilities, conducted in 3 separate batches. Accompanied by their teachers and guardians, the SPED learners explored various aspects of vessel and cargo operations. TMO Masao staff and port police personnel offered a detailed explanation of the portโs functions, the appearance and operation of ships, and the transactions carried out within the facility.
This educational initiative aimed to promote awareness and inclusivity while providing the children with a unique, hands-on learning experience. The Port of Masaoโs active involvement highlights its commitment to creating an inclusive environment and supporting individuals with special needs.
