Nasipit Port served as the regional ceremonial venue as the Philippine Ports Authority โ Port Management Office of Agusan (PPA PMO Agusan) hosted the Caraga Regionโs 1st Quarter 2026 Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) spearheaded by the Caraga Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC), with disaster response agencies from across the region participating.
The activity brought together representatives from the RDRRMC, along with response teams from the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) of Agusan del Norte and several Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Offices (MDRRMOs). Personnel from the Philippine Coast Guard, Philippine Navy, and the Philippine National Police also participated, demonstrating coordinated response efforts among national and local agencies.
During the drill, participants responded to a simulated strong earthquake scenario that triggered a tsunami warning. The PPA PMO Agusan Incident Management Team (IMT) activated emergency protocols, directing personnel to carry out evacuation procedures toward designated higher ground while ensuring the orderly movement of port users within the terminal area. Maritime responders also conducted Water Search and Rescue (WASAR) operations in nearby waters.
The activity concluded with an evaluation of the participating units, where PPA PMO Agusan successfully passed the assessment, highlighting the PMOโs continuing commitment to strengthening disaster preparedness, enhancing emergency response capability, and reinforcing coordination with partner agencies to ensure the safety of port users and stakeholders.
