The Port Management Office (PMO) of Agusan successfully held an orientation on Republic Act No. 11313, or the โSafe Spaces Act,โ at the PMO Multi-Purpose Hall of Nasipit Port on April 28, 2025.
Delivered by Mr. Oliver O. Salino, Training Specialist III from the Commission on Human Rights (CHR) โ Caraga, the session opened with a brief discussion on Gender Sensitivity Training (GST), emphasizing the importance of respect for diverse gender identities. This was followed by an overview of RA No. 7877, or the โAnti-Sexual Harassment Act of 1995,โ focusing on institutional responsibilities in ensuring a safe environment.
The sessionโs highlight was the in-depth discussion on the Safe Spaces Act, a law that strengthens protection against sexual harassment in both private and public spaces. Mr. Salino outlined the prohibited acts such as catcalling and unwanted physical contact, detailed the corresponding penalties, and emphasized the safeguards that institutions are mandated to enforce.
The session concluded with an open forum where participants shared their insights and takeaways of the topics discussed. PM Mildred J. Padilla encouraged everyone to embody respect, equality, and safety in all aspects of life, reminding participants that the way one treats others is a true reflection of oneโs values.
This initiative reinforces PMO Agusanโs continued commitment to fostering a gender-aware and inclusive workplace.
